What Agentic AI means
Agentic AI means AI that can act like an agent —
it doesn’t just generate answers, it works autonomously (on its own) to achieve a goal.
Agentic AI = Autonomous AI System that works toward a goal.
Agentic AI is an autonomous system, which means it doesn’t need step-by-step instructions from humans.
You simply give it a goal, and it figures out the steps needed to achieve that goal.
Example:
- You tell ChatGPT: “Write me a report on AI.”
→ That’s Generative AI — it just writes when asked. - You tell an Agentic AI: “Prepare and email a weekly AI trend report to my boss.”
→ It searches the web, summarizes content, writes the report, and sends it automatically.
That’s autonomy — doing things independently.
Example to understand Agentic AI
Everyday Example: Smart Personal Assistant (Agentic AI Version)
You: “Hey AI, I need to plan a one-day trip from Pune to Lonavala this weekend.”
Agentic AI:
- Checks your calendar to find free time
- Books the cab or train
- Suggests good restaurants nearby
- Sends an itinerary to your friends on WhatsApp
- Reminds you to pack rainwear if the forecast says rain
That’s Agentic AI — you didn’t guide each step. You just told your goal,
and the AI planned, acted, and delivered a complete result.
📌 Contrast:
- ChatGPT = Writes you a travel plan (Generative AI)
- Agentic AI = Executes the plan automatically (Agentic AI)
